Local Option Sales Tax Information

The City of Cedar Rapids and Linn County have voted to allow the cities of  Marion, Hiawatha, Center Point, Walford, and Robins to "revote" on the 1 cent  Local Option Sales Tax.  The Election will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Robins residents voting at City Hall, 265 South Second Street.

The tax, if passed, will commence on July 1, 2009 and be in effect for 5 years.  The revenue generated by the 1-cent tax will be divided between the Linn County cities who have approved the tax.  All of the monies collected by the 1 cent option tax will be divided between the Linn County cities on a per capita basis. Keep in mind, these dollars will only be received by Robins with an approved vote by the Robins voters.  With the Robins' population at 2,435 residents, our share of the estimated revenue for the City of Robins is $314,586.70 per year, or $1,572,933.50 over the next 5 years.

If the Robins voters approve the 1 cent  local option tax, the Robins City Council has voted to use our share of the revenue for street repairs/upgrades, water, sewer, and other community improvement projects.

Please exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, May 5th and help make Robins a better place to live!!
